Housing |

As Vermont grows, we have to renew our commitment to permanent affordability in housing for Vermont’s workforce.
This is all about a cooperative effort. I will work with all interested parties to develop projects at the local level, fostering creative public/private partnerships. My administration will focus more on facilitating the leveraging of federal and private foundation money and packaging deals so projects can get built in partnership with local developers and builders. Town and regional planning commissions need to be supported in providing clear, predictable guidelines and rules for creative development and affordable housing in growth centers.
The Douglas Administration has lost valuable ground in this area. It has sought to tax farmers who want to conserve land. It fails to support innovative approaches to home ownership and genuinely affordable housing. We have to renew our commitment to the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board. No entity has done more to support creative housing opportunities and also take a leadership role in land conservation. |
