Scudder on the Issues

Opposing the War in Iraq
Scudder Parker opposed the Iraq war from the first day President Bush and his team began making the argument for it. He believed then, and he is even more persuaded now, that the President chose war in advance of any sound evidence or policy, and his case for it was flawed and in many ways dishonest.

Scudder believe President Bush went to war without clear objectives, without an understanding of the situation in and culture of Iraq, and with inadequate planning and resources to protect our troops. Scudder sees the war draining billions of our taxpayer dollars from making communities safer, including those here in Vermont. Scudder is not buying the Republican lie that this war is about terrorism.

Energy
Scudder will work to lower energy costs so we can stay warm, keep the lights on, and get from one place to another without having to sacrifice other basic needs. Scudder helped create Efficiency Vermont and will work to make safe, clean, and renewable energy sources a part of our future.

Health Care
Scudder will lower the cost of health care by creating a system that works for Vermonters, not out-of-state insurance and pharmaceutical companies. All Vermonters should have access to their own family doctor and shouldn't be forced to choose between health care and other necessities.

Good Jobs
Scudder will create good jobs by investing in the opportunities and infrastructure that will help our small-business owners, farmers, workers and entrepreneurs succeed.

Environment
Scudder will lead efforts to clean up our environment and preserve the natural beauty of Vermont.
